I buy a lot of domains at Godaddy, so it seemed right when the time cam to get my hosting there as well….Big, big mistake. Although their prices are reasonable, the actual setting up of the hosting account and adding other add-on domains is THE most confusing and awkward experiences that I have gone through.
Once you have your hosting account set up, adding a domain is fairly painless…untill you get to the adding of files. The FTP client they use is close to useless and you had better already know how use your own FTP and set up any kind of theme. This is NOT a site for newbies.
If you try to add a second (or third, fourth, etc.) domain, the maze of confusion is overwhelming.
If you want to use WP or Joomla, you have to know how to set it up yourself, which is time consuming and confusing in and of itself.
Although the price is reasonable, it is not the lowest you can find, and for what they charge, they should have a lot more bells and whistles.
The support at Godaddy is really good and I have always had my questions/concerns answered. But if you are new to hosting, be prepared to spend a lot of time on the phone with them and TRYING to find the answers in their online FAQ and help sections.
Although some people swear by them, I find other (Hostgator) hosting companies less time consuming and easier to use. And when it comes to setting up your domain, I think that you should spend more time worrying about what content to put on your website rather than how to get the content onto your site.
One last thing I have a complaint about. If and when you do get your site set up, Godaddy for some reason can take up to 24 hours before your site goes live. When I have asked support about this, they say that this is normal. Every other hosting company I have dealt with, the site is live within minutes.
Godaddy is GREAT at one thing and one thing only…..Domain Names. If you want to buy a domain, look there, and also do a search for “Godaddy coupons” so you can save even more money. They are the largest, best and cheapest domain name company on the ‘net. But when you do acquire the perfect domain name for yourself, point the nameservers at another hosting company and get busy setting up your perfect website!!!!

Oh man where do I start? After i got rid of Jumpline.com for net issues, I went to godaddy.com. I tried shared hosting and it was too weak and I was down a few times. It took me 5 minutes to load phpmyadmin and they never found out why. So, I tried dedicated. The cost was perfect until the downtime began. My cPanel was messing up bad even though I did not customize it at all. my server went down for 4 days and it took that long for them to answer my trouble ticket. I called them constantly and they just said that I was in queue at the data center. Well, this happened literally one a month, they would finally get me back up and say it was fixed and won’t happen again. But, this happened for 4 months and each time for the same reason. I was never given a credit or even a “we’re sorry”. So, I went to Hostgator Dedicated where I have been online for many months with 0% downtime. Godaddy may be OK with domains, but that is about it!
